Fractel E-Series E-Black Cap Review: Lightweight Comfort
A lightweight trail running cap that puts comfort and performance first.
Fractel’s E-Series E-Black Cap is a great example of what happens when a brand known for its trail credentials strips everything back and focuses on pure functionality.
This one sits in their smaller-fit collection, designed for 50-58cm head sizes, and it shows in the way it hugs the head with a refined silhouette that feels made for movement rather than fashion.
The first thing I noticed is how light the cap is, and it’s because of Fractel’s PACE fabric, which uses a recycled polyester-spandex blend that’s soft, breathable, and quick to dry, making it well suited to warm Australian conditions or long days out in the great beyond.
Functionality is top here. The pre-curved brim offers enough sun protection without feeling bulky, and the adjustable rear cinch lets you fine-tune the fit until it’s dialled in. There’s also a generous ponytail opening at the back, which is particularly handy for anyone that has thick hair like me; hair that tends to fight against most caps. Even with a bun to keep the whisps off my neck, the E-Black Cap sits where it’s meant to.
The E-Series as a whole comes in a wide range of colours, and while here I’m focusing on the classic black, the broader palette is impressive so there’s something for anyone who likes their kit understated or matchy-matchy. Regardless of the shade, the build quality is consistent with Fractel – seams are tidy, the profile is sleek, and the entire cap folds down easily into a pack or pocket without losing structure.
On the trails, it performs as promised. Sweat evaporates within reasonable time, it stays put in the wind, and there’s no bounce or flap thanks to its low-profile shape. If you like your gear lightweight, breathable and unfussy, the Fractel E-Series E-Cap deserves a place in your rotation.
