Teva Hurricane XLT3 Review
TRM reviews the Teva Hurricane XLT3, including cushioning, grip, fit and post-run comfort for trail runners.
Teva has been making the post-run sandal of choice for trail runners since before most of us knew what trail running was.
The Hurricane XLT3 is the latest evolution of that legacy, and it’s the best version yet.
The most meaningful upgrade over the beloved XLT2 is the cushioning. Teva added 5mm more EVA to the topsole, pushing the heel stack up significantly and delivering shock absorption that sits well above average for the category. After a hard week on the trails, that extra underfoot softness genuinely registers.

The adjustable Universal Strapping System with three points of fit is as dialled as ever, and the updated FuseLock hook-and-loop closure offers considerably more holding strength than traditional options. The Spider Rubber Endure outsole has also been reworked with sharper, more angled lugs that grip confidently on both wet and dry surfaces, which matters when navigating slippery rocks or river crossings.
The straps are made from 100% REPREVE recycled plastic, and both the midsole and outsole incorporate recycled materials.
I tested these on a local trail in the middle of winter and was happily surprised by how comfortable they felt underfoot, particularly given I’ve been managing plantar fasciitis. The extra cushioning and heel support made a noticeable difference, and my feet felt well-held without any of the irritation I’d half-expect from other trail sandals.
One honest caveat for trail runners specifically: the open-toe design leaves your feet exposed on technical terrain. Roots, rocks, and loose trail debris are unforgiving on bare toes, and if your running takes you somewhere gnarly, the closed-toe version is worth considering instead.
Specifically for trail runners’ post-run recovery, aid station rest and everything in-between, the Hurricane XLT3 open toed sandals are exactly what your feet deserve after the hard work is done.
