Grampians Peaks Trail 11.12.2024

The iconic Grampians Peaks Trail 100 Miler (GPT100) has been officially inducted into the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors for 2025, placing Australia on the map alongside trail races in Canada, France, Hong Kong/China, Japan, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

The GPT100 offers athletes an extraordinary challenge—a technical 162-kilometre point-to-point race traversing the Grampians/Gariwerd National Park in Victoria from north to south. The event will take place from Thursday, 6 November, to Sunday, 9 November 2025.

Discover the Grampians and Grampians Peaks Trail

Located just over two hours northwest of Melbourne, the Grampians, also known as Gariwerd to the Traditional Owners, have been cared for by Aboriginal people for over 20,000 years. This national park is a haven of dramatic rocky outcrops, vibrant granite cliffs, and eucalyptus forests. It is home to a rich array of wildlife, including kangaroos, echidnas, cockatoos, and emus, as well as unique flora found only in the region.

The GPT100 follows the Grampians Peaks Trail, a 162-kilometre hiking route established in 2021. This non-stop race includes over 7,700 metres of elevation gain and must be completed within a 53-hour time limit. Designed to work in harmony with the natural landscape, the trail’s ridgelines and rugged terrain make it both breathtakingly scenic and technically challenging.

Halls Gap and Dunkeld, two vibrant local communities, provide a warm welcome to participants and spectators alike. From cosy cafes to friendly local businesses, the area offers an authentic taste of Australian hospitality.

As part of the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors, the GPT100 will take place just two weeks before the series finale at RMB Ultra-Trail Cape Town. Organised by SingleTrack Events, the race will also feature a 50-kilometre event, as well as relay and stage race options.

Race Director Joe Dorph expressed his excitement, stating:

The World Trail Majors unites the finest trail races, offering athletes a chance to immerse themselves in stunning landscapes and diverse cultures. We can’t wait for trail runners from around the globe to discover the incredible beauty of the Grampians/Gariwerd mountains in Victoria.”
