Thinking about entering the Wild Earth Unbroken Teams Trail Marathon this Easter, but still have a few “yeah but…” questions?

We’ve put together a helpful FAQ article with answers to everything you need to know and more.

If you were at the recent Wild Earth Unbroken Team Trail Marathon information sessions, this will feel familiar. If you weren’t, consider this your catch-up.

All that’s left to do is rally your team and get ready for a memorable weekend.

The Format

The event runs as a team relay, with runners completing laps in a set order across the duration of the race. It’s super straightforward once you see it in action—structured enough to keep things smooth, flexible enough to allow teams to settle into a rhythm.

Teams nominate their running order ahead of time (that’s who is running first, second, third and fourth) and rotate through consistently. Each lap begins and finishes in the event hub (with refreshments and music to enjoy between laps) and there are clearly marked transition points for changeovers.

Each team’s timing chip needs to stay on the move (a.k.a ‘Unbroken’) and be exchanged after each 14km loop is completed. All runners will run in order throughout the race, until each runner completes a marathon or the ultra.

One or more of your legs may fall during the night but your job as a team is to have unbroken movement until you’re all done!

The Distances and Divisions

There are two distances to choose from: Marathon or Ultra Marathon and both are run in laps.

Each distance has 3 competitive divisions:

Marathon
MIXED MARATHONS (2 Male & 2 Female runners),
ALL MALE MARATHONS (4 x Male runners)
ALL FEMALE MARATHONS (4 x Female runners)

Ultra Marathon
MIXED ULTRA (1 Male & 1 Female runner),
ALL MALE ULTRA ( 2 x Male runners)
ALL FEMALE ULTRA (2 x Female runners)

Make sure you know your start times and your team starts on time, so you are eligible to place in your division.
– 2 person teams (Ultra option) starts at 2.30pm
– 4 person (Marathon) teams starts at 3.30pm

What’s the Terrain Like?

The course is made up of fairly flat, runnable single track with sections of fire trail.

It’s designed to flow. You won’t be navigating technical mountain terrain, but it’s still true trail—expect dirt underfoot and a course that rewards steady pacing.

Night Running Tips

Yes, you’ll likely be running in the dark.

So bring a good quality headlamp with strong, reliable beam coverage and a spare light or backup batteries is strongly recommended.

The course is well marked, and many runners say the night laps end up being a highlight—quieter, cooler, and surprisingly atmospheric.

Shoes & Gear

Trail shoes are strongly recommended. Grip and stability make a noticeable difference, particularly if the ground is damp overnight.

Beyond that, keep it simple: comfortable kit, layers for the evening, and recovery gear for downtime between laps.

Facilities at Event Hub

Teams have access to the school hall, which includes toilets and showers.

There’s space to rest, reset, and regroup between laps. Yoga and movies are part of the weekend atmosphere, creating a communal basecamp feel rather than a simple race start/finish zone.

Other precinct facilities include: Glamping tents, BYO tent sites, start/finish zones, Relay Exchange Zone, Hall with cover from the elements, tables and chairs, canteen, toilets and HOT showers, coffee van and food trucks.

Aid station

There’ll be an aid station on course at the half-way on each loop throughout the day and night. It will be manned by a volunteer during daylight hours (10am –6pm, 6am-midday) but will be unmanned between 6pm and 6am, so runners must be self-sufficient.

Supplies at the aid station will be self-serve only from 6pm through to 6am.

The event is ‘cupless’ so runners need to carry their own drink bottles which can be a collapsible cup, drink bottle, soft flask, hydration vest and bladder etc.

Water and sports drink provided by FIXX Nutrition will be available in the race precinct throughout the event.

Athletes must provide their own nutrition.

Food & Bar

The school P&C will be providing home-cooked food options across the weekend. Supporting them directly supports the local community.

You might be happy to know, the bar will be open Saturday night (we can hear the yeowwwws from here!), so you can chill and share a yarn when the hard miles are over.

Camper Trailers & Set-Up

Unfortunately camper trailers aren’t allowed on the school oval. But there are designated areas for vehicles and team setups—full details are available on the Wild Earth Unbroken Team Trail Marathon website to help you plan ahead.

Wild Earth Pop-Up Store

Wild Earth will have a pop-up store onsite Saturday.

If you forget something or decide you need an extra layer, you’ll be covered.

Still Weighing It Up?

Once you’ve got the details, organising your team should become a whole lot easier. You can lock in your running order, sort your gear and nutrition, plan your setup and actually start looking forward to the weekend instead of overthinking it.

If something’s still unclear, get in touch with event organisers (contact details are available here) and we’ll point you in the right direction. Otherwise, rally the crew and let’s make it official.
