Heralded as one of Australia’s most brutal and unique trail events, the Feral Pig Ultra is a point-to-point that challenges the body and tests the spirit. Running exclusively on the rugged tracks of Western Australia’s Darling Scarp, the Feral Pig Ultra stakes its claim on extreme isolation, finisher prestige, and the instantly legendary tradition of the midnight start.
It’s not for the faint hearted though… it requires smarts, discipline, and absolute respect. This ultra marathon is isolated, brutal, and will absolutely catch you out if you let down your guard.
THE FIVE DISTANCES
The Feral Pig Ultra features a full weekend of challenging trail running, offering five distinct distances that cater to every level of endurance and ambition.
The 100 Miler: The Ultimate Test
The Feral Pig 100 Miler is the crown jewel of the event and a definitive challenge on the Australian ultra calendar. It begins on a Friday at midnight, and for most runners, this means ending a long working week only to immediately begin an all-out, two-day battle against the trail. This gruelling nocturnal start forces immediate mental fortitude, demanding runners conquer the first 5-6 hours in the dark.
The course itself is raw and wild: a unique track that is the only annual trail running event granted exclusive sanctioning to use the northern section of the world-famous Bibbulmun Track. Self-reliance is key here; the course is punishing and uninterrupted, featuring only two road crossings in the entire distance – a testament to its isolation. Support is intentionally scarce: the first aid station doesn’t appear until the 43km mark, with the second located at 72km. This forced self-sufficiency is the defining characteristic of this event.

This 100 Miler is a listed UTMB & ITRA event, with the difficulty reflected in the record books. Only one athlete has ever completed this distance in under 20 hours, solidifying the event’s reputation as a true benchmark for extreme endurance.
While the 100 Miler steals the headlines, the supporting events ensure that the Feral Pig is a cornerstone of the Ultra Series trail running calendar.
The Wild Swine 100K
This ultimate mid-range distance provides a significant jump from the 100 Miler. With a 36-hour cutoff, runners have time to complete the race through the night and into the following day. It runs on the same spectacular tracks as the 100 Miler, guaranteeing the isolation and challenge that defines the event, making it the perfect stepping stone for serious runners.
The Boar 50 Miler
The Boar delivers a day/night challenge that demands respect and focus. With a generous 36-hour cutoff, runners can fully immerse themselves in the challenge. It follows extensive sections of the 100 Miler course, offering a test of personal limits.
The Sow 50K
This distance still packs a serious punch. Starting at midday and featuring a generous 28-hour cutoff, the Sow requires runners to navigate the trail through the entire night and into the following afternoon. With its own challenging elevation profile, this course offers a significant ultra marathon achievement.
The Pork Chop 23K
Perfect for the experienced trail runner looking for a fast, technical effort. This course is notorious for its challenging terrain and beautiful views, offering a taste of the Scarp’s rugged nature and providing an ideal entry point into the Feral Pig atmosphere.
All distances, from the 100 Miler down to the Pork Chop, are ITRA and UTMB listed events, offering participants the chance to earn valuable ranking and qualifiers for future global races.

The Feral Pig Ultra is a celebration of isolation and community. It’s a race where the trail is the primary obstacle, and finishing is a conversation with the self. Whether tackling the midnight solitude of the 100 Miler or the blistering pace of the 23K, every finisher earns their medal on a truly legendary, unique piece of punishing WA landscape. Feral is as Feral does.
