Introducing The Vines, Brews & Views Thrillogy

For the trail runner who seeks genuine mastery, South Australia offers the ultimate prize: the brand new Vines, Brews & Views Thrillogy. Uniting three of the state’s most iconic and demanding ultras – the Ultra Adelaide 100 Miler, The Barodorf 120K, and the Heysen Trail Ultra 115K.

This series is a comprehensive test of endurance, mindset, and strategy across a remarkable diversity of terrain – South Australia’s very own long-distance challenge, culminating in bragging rights that span vineyards, historic towns, and rugged coastline.

The Thrillogy is designed to solidify the achievements of dedicated ultra runners, weaving together the distinct geographical and cultural threads of South Australia into one singular narrative. Completing all three events is a definitive statement of trail mastery and earns athletes a permanent place in the South Australian ultra running record books.

Every long distance event within the Thrillogy is a world-class standard – they will all be officially ITRA and UTMB listed. This global status ensures that each completed challenge contributes toward UTMB qualifications, cementing the Thrillogy as a genuine global stepping stone for ambitious athletes.

THE THREE ICONS OF ENDURANCE

The Barodorf 120K: The Iconic Ultra

The Barodorf provides the most dynamic and culturally rich journey of the series, connecting the world-famous Barossa Valley wine region with the German heritage town of Hahndorf. The Thrillogy element here is The Big One 120K, a demanding course so unique it offers a different test each year thanks to its alternating direction. The finish line celebrates this regional identity, alternating between the Barossa Valley (Vineyards) and Hahndorf (Historic Hills).

Ultra Adelaide 100 Miler: From Summit to City

The Ultra Adelaide 100 Miler is a true test of determination that starts deep in the hills of Adelaide and finishes at Pinky Flat, right in front of the Adelaide oval in the city centre. It’s an event that blends nature’s raw landscape with ultimate urban achievement, pushing runners through remote bushlands, and along the River Torrens (Karrawirra Parri) before delivering them to the beating heart of the state’s capital. This challenge is defined by its finish location, providing one of the most unique contrast-reward moments in Australian ultra running.

Heysen Trail Ultra 115K: Pines to Pasture

The Heysen 115k is defined by its deep inland immersion, traversing the region’s rich agricultural landscape. The course begins with an early push through pine forests, quickly transitioning to long sections of dairy farmland that dominate the course. Serious elevation is experienced through the iconic Yulte and Myponga Conservation Parks, before you pass into the tiny (but very pretty) Inman Valley township. A short coastal section rewards you with bluff views, before heading out to the quaint Victor Harbor finish line.

THE THRILLOGY: THE ULTIMATE FEAT

Completing the Vines, Brews & Views Thrillogy requires conquering three distinct biomes: the vineyards and alternating challenges of the Barodorf, the bushland and urban gravity of Ultra Adelaide, and the rolling farmland of the Heysen Trail Ultra. This incredible accomplishment places the runner among the elite few who have truly mastered South Australian trail running. If you’re ready to carve out your own legacy, the Thrillogy awaits.
