Gear Review: Tarkine's Sustainable Merino Luxury-Run Mid Crew Socks - Trail Tested

We tested the Tarkine Merino Luxury-Run Performance socks on a variety of trails to see how well they perform.

A running sock should be like a good support crew: reliable, comfortable and you trust their expertise. The moment you have to micro-manage your socks mid-run, we are moving into eyeroll territory.

The Tarkine Merino Luxury Run Mid Crew Socks fall smack-bang in the reliable “set and forget” category.

During testing, these bad boys were so comfortable I barely noticed I was wearing them, which in my book is exactly what you want from a running sock.

Made from a blend of 49% Merino wool, 48% recycled nylon and 3% elastane the socks strike a great balance between softness, durability and structure. They stayed up throughout the run (a big win) and felt firm and supportive without pinching (another win).

And something the long run enthusiasts will love – they are blister resistant.

Merino wool can sometimes raise questions for runners in hot climates, but these handled the heat well. Even after a sweaty outing, they weren’t dripping wet or heavy underfoot, which makes them a solid option year-round regardless where you live.

And here’s the kicker: Tarkine’s sustainability mission doesn’t stop at their shoes. A slice of every sale helps protect the Tarkine rainforest in Tasmania, the world’s second-largest temperate rainforest. Turns out your sock drawer can do a little good for the planet too.

Comfortable, breathable and dependable, these socks tick all the boxes for everyday trail runs, long kilometres and everything in between.

And if a sock can do all that while staying comfortably unnoticed on your feet, it’s doing something very right.
