In Veneto, in the north-east of Italy, there’s an experience of deep connection with oneself and nature when running in the Epica dell’Acqua.
Runners and hikers accompany the longest river of the country along its Delta, crossing it from south to north, and immersing themselves in the landscape of the lower Polesine.
This is the Epica dell’Acqua, a 100km 3-stage race in the Po Delta of Veneto, the youngest land and the largest wetland in Italy, near Venice, crossed by the 45th Parallel North, halfway between the North Pole and the Equator.

The first stage (32km) begins from its concrete pontoon bridge, with runners passing through the island of Polesine Camerini in the Ca’Bonelli farm and then along the straits and embankments beside the Sacca degli Scardovari, the large inland basin littered with fishermen’s houses on stilts.
Stage two (33km) starts on the beach of Boccasette, with participants moving along the Via delle Valli and then a crossing of the river by boat to Albarella Island.

Lastly, the third stage (33km) goes from Albarella to Valle Casonetti towards Adige, with stunning pine forests and beautiful beaches. The finish line is at the Botanical Garden of Porto Caleri.
This year, the race is being held from 17-19 October 2025, so there is still plenty of time to register your spot, and then book your flights!
If the words don’t entice you, maybe the images below will! And keep an eye out for more images of the Epica dell’Acqua in TRM57, out in November 2025!
