Right, so you are locked down in your home, all races for the first part of 2020 have been cancelled, you are able to do a 5km run around your house or garden by doing 20 million loops, but what’s the point, what are you even training for?

How about the 4 Peaks Mountain Run, which takes place in September 2020 and is known as the toughest 24km mountain race in South Africa? And to remove any risk for those athletes who enter during the lockdown period, Pure Adventure the organisers are offering a full refund should the race be cancelled later in the year due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

“People and athletes in particular are motivated to train when they have a goal or a race to train for, and hopefully the 4 Peaks Mountain Race is the exact motivation they need,” explains race organiser, Adrian Saffy from Pure Adventures. “We realise these are tough times we are going through, and tough times call for drastic measures, which is exactly what we have done by offering a full refund to anyone who enters the race during the lockdown period, should the race be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Every week during the lockdown, Pure Adventures are sharing specific exercises, via their social media platforms, to help keep you mountain running fit, who knows you could go into this year’s race stronger than ever!

Apart from the traditional 24km route race organisers have also added a 10km panoramic route, which will follow the base of the mountain range as a great option for those not yet ready to tackle the mountains. “What makes this route so unique is the abundant game life that runners will be able to see,” says Saffy. “As with the 24km route, the 10km will also have limited entries to allow runners to experience the true magic of the event and preserve the pristine nature of the mountains.”

The event will take participants through the picturesque Moolmanshoek Private Game Reserve on Saturday 19, 2020.
